CASTELLARE DI UGNANA

Originally this castle was one of the oldest outposts on the Etruscan road connecting Volterra and Fiesole, overlooking the valley of Greve in Chianti in the wine county of the same name, 30 kilometers from Florence.

Documents exist dating back to the year 1000 which mention the donation of the castle to a nearby abbey.
During the centuries it was owned by the Capponi family and was then used as a military headquarters during the wars between Florence and Siena..

The remnants of the castle have now been fully restored by owners Roberto and Christine Zecca and stand as a splendid example of medieval architecture.
